Emily Mellgard

Centre on Religion & Geopolitics, Analyst

Emily Mellgard was the Africa Analyst for the Centre on Religion & Geopolitics, and co-editor of the Global Extremism Monitor. Before joining the Foundation she was the Africa program research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) working with Ambassador John Campbell. There she was the editor of the Africa in Transition blog and sub-editor of the Nigeria Security Tracker. Emily's research interests include Nigeria, the history and growth of Boko Haram, and regional implications of the group's violence, rising Islamism in Mali, the escalation of violence in the Central African Reupublic, and al-Shabaab in Somalia and Kenya. She holds a Bachelors degree in Theology and Religion from Durham University and a Masters in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Emily has appeared on Sky News. Emily is a member of Chatham House and the Nigeria Security Network.
