Dr Stig Jarle Hansen is an associate professor and leader of the international relations program at the Norwegian University of Life Science, and author of the acclaimed "Al Shabaab in Somalia" (Hurst, 2013), as well as a co-author of "The Borders of Islam" (Hurst, 2009). He is one of the world's leading experts on Islamists in East Africa and Yemen, and has been used by CNN, NBC, Al Jazeera, BBC and Chinese Channel 4 as an expert commenter.
