Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi
Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was elected in February 2012 to replace the deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh in a single candidate election.
Major General Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was born in the southern governorate of Abyan of what then was a British Protectorate. After military studies in Britain, he joined the army of the independent People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. After the southern civil war of 1986 he followed President Ali Nasser's contingent into exile in the North. During the 1994 civil war he was instrumental in defeating the southern secessionist forces, and in the same year he was appointed Vice-President. He held this post and a low political profile until February 2012, when he was elected to replace the deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh in a single candidate election. Since his appointment he has tried to adhere to the provisions of the GCC Agreement, purge the army and bureaucracy of Salih relatives and supporters, and facilitate the redrawing of the political map of Yemen.
